Reeds play top to bottom, including a full octave of altissimo. Full, round, powerful and resonant. Depending on the player's set up and attack, these reeds play from warm to bright, loud to soft. None of the honky sound often found in synthetics.
Novel design
Keene Reeds are artisan hand crafted in Lexington, Mass. Designed with CAD solid modeling and finite element analysis. Dozens of configurations, materials and dimensions were tested and evaluated.
Revolutionary materials
Constructed of a proprietary fully cured inert polymer that encapsulates two different types of carbon fiber reinforcement. The carbon fiber tip and stringer provide the correct level of stiffness and flexibility required for unique sound response and resistance. The reed is coated with safecoat inert sealer.
Playability
Individually hand crafted for integrated mouth feel, responsiveness and resonance. The grained surface has a cane-like feel and are not slippery in your chops. Resistant to play altissimo but flexibility to play panimissimo. No soaking or breaking in required.

Mechanical engineer, blacksmith, inventor, and sax player Chris Keene has created a novel synthetic reed that mimics the best qualities of reed without the fragility and variability. In his Lexington studio, he has collaborated with top sax musicians and technicians to apply advanced polymers and materials to individually hand fabricate a new kind of reed.
Rigorous testing has ptoven that Keene Reeds out-perform other synthetic reeds. Each reed is custom made with attention to detail and precisely calibrated to out-play conventional reeds and produce a consistent, vibrant sound.

With Keene Reed, players get the benefits of synthetic reeds without compromising on the sound and playability of cane reeds.
Using elements of natural cane, Keene Reeds are hand made in layers that mimic the structure of cane. Resin helps the reed last longer, as it builds resistance to the elements. Polymer fibers build in flexibility, improving the articulation and response. The natural cane elements shine in the sound, producing warmer, natural tone. The innovation provides the elements cane reed players love, while prioritizing durability and longevity of use.
